What’s the Secret to Stop Obsessing?

What’s the secret to how to stop your brain from obsessing?

Ever obsess over the betrayal that wrecked your life?

Obsess over what you could have done differently?

Or the things he should have done or could have done?

How many ‘what if’ questions have you processed?

If I would taken this fork in the road instead of the one I did, then what would have happened?

Oh my gosh, I lived in my head for so long. I tried to think through scenarios and what I could have done differently to avoid this.

I thought through each avenue that could have been taken or was taken.

I analyzed. I questioned.

Time would go by and I was still sitting in the same spot, thinking through my life.

I was either focusing on the details of the past or the ‘what if’s’ of the future.

Rarely was I in the present moment.

The secret to getting out of obsessing…is to be present in the moment.

Where to start?

Movement. Go for a walk without your phone. Listen to the birds, look at the sunshine, the trees, the water, the creatures (gators, turtles, squirrels, bunnies around here).

Gratitude. Get honest about the beauty in your life. There’s breath in your lungs, you breathe clean air, you have a place to sleep at night, you have clothes on your back, you are loved.

Use your 5 senses to get very present to what you see, feel, touch, etc.

Take deep breaths and connect with your body.

There are many ways to be fully present. Practice them.

This is a START to how to get out of your head and STOP obsessing.
